About the role

The National Deputy Head of School (WA) provides senior academic leadership and operational oversight for the School of Nursing and Midwifery, based at the Fremantle campus.

The role supports strategic leadership, governance and quality assurance across undergraduate and postgraduate programs within a national structure. You will contribute to academic excellence, workforce and change management, research performance, and a strong, collegial culture aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan.

This opportunity is suited to an experienced Level D or E Academic seeking to expand their leadership impact at a national level and gain exposure to Faculty and University-wide leadership and decision making.  The role reports to has a close working partnership with the Dean and National Head of School (Nursing and Midwifery)

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Dean and National Head of School (Nursing and Midwifery) to provide senior academic and operational leadership across the national School.
  • Lead and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate programs, ensuring curriculum quality and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (ANMAC, TEQSA).
  • Oversee academic workforce planning, workload, resource allocation and contribution to budget sustainability.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, growth initiatives and delivery of Faculty and University priorities.
  • Strengthen research performance and culture through mentoring, collaboration and capability building.
  • Lead people and culture initiatives, including performance development, succession planning and team engagement.
  • Ensure quality assurance, risk management and continuous improvement across teaching, research and professional practice.
  • Provide oversight of clinical placements and external partnerships, ensuring quality, compliance and strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Represent the School internally and externally, enhancing reputation and sector engagement.

 

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • A doctoral qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, or a related discipline
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM) with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • A sustained record of excellence in teaching and research
  • Proven leadership experience in higher education, including staff and

program development

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
